It was used in mixed branch line service on non-electrified lines and in light service on main lines. With an output of 1,100 hp (810 kW), it was approved for a speed of 110 km/h. In 1968, the locomotives were redesignated as the 211 series. After the classic red livery, numerous locomotives were painted ocean blue/beige from 1974/75.
